Parent-controlled video curation

Safety by curation, not moderation

ConsumerProduct designSafety-first

KidQueue is a parent-first app that replaces algorithmic autoplay with an intentional, hand-picked library. Parents choose exactly what their kids can watch and queue it up — safety by design rather than by moderation.

Why I’m building it

The default video experience for kids optimizes for watch time, not for the values a parent actually has. KidQueue flips that: the parent is the curator, and the algorithm is out of the loop.

What it does

  • Parents build and order a personal watchlist
  • Kids get a simple, distraction-free player
  • No recommendations, no autoplay rabbit holes

Curation beats moderation

“Kids mode” usually means moderation: filtering the worst content out of an infinite feed. Moderation asks is this bad enough to block?, an unwinnable game against an endless catalog. Curation asks is this good enough to include?, a game a parent can win in ten minutes a week. When the queue ends, it ends, and that’s a feature rather than a bug.

Why it matters beyond kids’ video

It’s the same argument I make in enterprise software: defaults are the real product, and whoever controls the default controls the outcome. KidQueue moves the default from “the platform decides what plays next” to “the parent already decided.”
